There comes a time for every budding tattoo artist when they will want to look at setting up their own tattoo business. If you have worked for a considerable time in an already established local shop gathering the necessary confidence, skills and knowledge, you maybe ready to make it on your own.
Once you've decided you want to go it alone, there are several steps to take. You should first of all look to acquiring premises, and then equipping that shop with the best equipment you can afford.
There is, of course, much more to running a businesses than this, you must ensure that your marketing campaigns are good enough to keep bringing business through the door, as well as keeping on top of your books and costs.
Making sure that you don't ignore any particular area of your business is very important. If you don't like bookkeeping, it is very easy to ignore it and let it pile up. If you do this, however, you will be unaware of the state of health of your business. Up to date books will show you how successful or otherwise your business is.
There are only 5 numbers that you can affect in order to improve your business, they are; volume of leads, number of conversions into sales, number of transactions, average sale price, and gross margin %.
These are the only numbers that matter to you as a business owner. You can only get more people as potential customers, then you can convert more of them into customers, then you can sell more to them (more tattoos).
You should look beyond just the operations that your business carries out and the services it provides and think about the health of the business as a whole on a long term basis. A very important investment to consider is the tattooing equipment, chairs, tables and other accessories.
You should always buy the highest quality equipment that you can possibly afford as this will not only improve your ground level operations, but it will improve your businesses image as well as providing you with the best and most durable equipment available meaning you don.t have to re-buy regularly, thus saving you an extra cost as well.
There is much more to setting up a tattoo business, then the above, but it gives a satarting point to consider. Now you need to sit down and make a detailed plan and fill in the details of how you will make your tattoo business successful.

Basically, my wife is wanting a tattoo that will have a meaning twords our family without using names. Such as birth dates, birthstones zodiac signs and so on.. Right now the only thing we can think of is the zodiac signs ( the kanji looking emblems )
My wife is a Cancer, I'm scorpio and both of my daughters are Leo so for them it can be 1 or 2 of the symbol whichever fits better.
If anyone has an idea or maybe can do a quick sketch / photoshop or something and give me a picture that would be awesome!
Signs are cool, but why don't you try something more unique as everyone does that. Try to think of something that represents you. Like for instance I'm a cosmetologist and my husband loves art. So I have a tattoo I designed that is a pair of hair cutting sheers, but instead of normal points for the tips of the scissors I have it like the end of paint brush - Like bristles.
So think of something creative that maybe both of your kids like and you like and your wife likes. And either put all of it together or put a couple together and have a couple tattoos in some kind of artistic way.

I'm going tomorrow to finish at least the outlining of the webbing of the dream catcher tattoo on my back. So far it's just black outlining and shading. I love the original colors, but I agree with the guy doing it that it will fade and that sometimes color tattoos don't look right on some people.
And he strongly believes it wouldn't look right on me... Now, I could just color in the beads of the dream catcher with family members birthstones, color in the feathers with birthstone colors, leave it all black and white, come up with other colors to use, or just use the original picture. I'm at a fork in the road and I don't know where to go!
This is my tattoo so far: http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/brittni622/100_1112.jpg His concern abojut the color and fading is because in the summertime, I get very dark. And I can understand where he's coming from... But I'm thinking about, since there are 7 feathers, doing one my birthstone, 4 my different grandparents and then 2 for my parents as their birthstones.
Here's my opinion:
I think you should color the beads the birthstone colors of your family members as you suggested. I think it's a nice tattoo and I don't think leaving it in black/white will do it justice. Maybe some nice bright eye-catching colors on the catcher itself & beads and then use natural colors for the feathers and laces.

I have been wanting a tattoo for a while now. I know exactly what I want and where. I'm curious as to how much it will cost.. help please? I could not include a picture... I drew it on my foot to make sure I would like it. But I'll try to explain it as best I can...
It would be 4 stars the colors of my families birthstones. The stars would be small and around them would be little dots (for a little decoration) it would run down my foot about 3inches, but it wouldn't be a solid 3inches (Imean all filled in) the stars would be scattered. Please help.
Every tattoo artist has different rates. And a lot depends on colors, etc.
You will probably lay down at least 100 bucks for that one, but you should just go and ask an artist to give you a quote.
P.s. Getting the top of your foot inked is going to hurt like hell. But hey, it'll look cool in the end, hopefully.

I have 2 tattoos already: -4 stars on my foot (one's green, red, blue, pink...represent my sisters', mom's, and dad's birthstone colors...) -A treble clef with a small eighth note and a heart (on my chest area, not by my boob, but higher)
I got things that I'm very passionate about...so next I'm getting my dad's name on my back (the area right below your neck) and I don't know what kind of design I want! =( I have some ideas like a heart fading into the letters...my sisters and I are getting matching ones, but they're getting Dallas Cowboy stars (because my dad's name is Tony Romo and my family's crazy about football...) I don't want to get the star anymore because I feel I'm not passionate about football enough...(even though it's a cool-looking star...) Anyways...any ideas for me? I would just be putting: Tony Romo, Jr....
It would be awesome if you had it in like a really flowing script. The heart fading into the letters sounds really cool! Are you and your dad really close? Because if so find something you are both passionate about. That you always did together when you were younger. And see if you can think up of something for that and bring it to the artist to maybe fix up. Like for me I would like the AC/DC logo or a guitar pick cause my dad and i listened to ac/dc a lot and played guitar....hope u find what u want

ok...... i am thinking of getting a tattoo above my ankle. I want to get the bible verse Corinthians 13 and a cross under that. Corinthians is all about how important love is. My problem is I want to somehow symbolize my family also.... I was thinking of putting all their 5 birthstones on the cross..... this tattoo is all about my love for God and my family... any other ideas of how i can incorprite my family into it? I would greatly appreciate it
I love Corinthians 13! I think that's a great tattoo idea, and the birthstones is a good idea too. I mean it depends on how big you want to go. You could get 5 flowers that represent them and have them sort of wrap around the cross. Hope I helped!
Find these Bible Verses at Corinthians 13
